Account books collection, 1763-1921.

Account books, letter books, journals and diaries, mostly of individuals and businesses on Long Island. Of note are whaling logs of the ships NEPTUNE, SABINA, and NIANTIC, in one volume, 1839-1846, with entries on whales caught, and life in the South Pacific and in New Zealand ports; in the same volume are entries on voyages of the ship HAMILTON from Sag Harbor to Patagonia to collect guano, 1848-1849, and to San Francisco, 1849-1850. Account books of members of the Smith family include those of Philetus Smith, 1763-1795; Paul Theodor Smith, 1793-1810; Elias Smith, 1796-1839, and Caleb Smith II, 1819-1844. Accounts of Sarah Rogers, 1795-1796; Arthur and Richard Blydenburgh, 1792-1804; Samuel Platt, 1812-1813; Samuel Ludlow Thompson, 1839-1847; Leonard W. Lawrence, 1842-1852; and James Halliock, 1849-1876. Also, accounts of William S. McConn of Oyster Bay, N.Y., 1869-1873; accounts of Beriah Petty for shipbuilding and house building in Stony Brook and Drowned Meadow (Port Jefferson), 1801-1813; accounts for farm operations of Edward S. Gillette of Sayville, N.Y., 1903-1904; business letters of James S. Mills, New York City, 1851-1859; receipt book of the Long Island Express Freight Company, 1884-1885; and diaries and accounts of Charles H. Burtis, 1870.
